It has been recently announced that one of the pubs in Poppleton has been offered for sale to the community. The Lord Nelson is the only surviving public house in Nether Poppleton and we are looking for avenues to try and safeguard its continued use for the benefit of the community.
If you can help there is a meeting on Monday 5th June at 7pm in The Lord Nelson. Advice, financial support, collaborative business ventures e.t.c are all issues that need to be explored and discussed, hopefully some of you reading this will be able to join us.
The closure of any village pub is always a regretful event. With 29 pubs closing every week, the loss of these local facilities strips the community of a key focal point that promotes cohesion and friendship. With levels of loneliness reportedly on the rise and screen use becoming increasingly pervasive, now, more than ever the local boozer is very important.
The pub has been designated as an Asset of Community Value (ACV), however time is running out and we need to act before the end of September. Please come along and lend your support.
Cheers!
