Extension in Poppleton

Just over 20 years ago, one of our very own designed this extension, which revitalised the property and has stood the test of time.

The riverside property mixes historical features such as mosaic flooring, sash windows and re-clamped external brickwork, with complimentary contemporary values; with the use of cedar cladding being one of the main focuses externally and exposed laminated Glulam beams internally, this period property extension has a very natural and airy feel as well as not only matching the old and the new, but brings the outside in.

The original design of the extension was always to be sympathetic and reflect the primary use of the building – originally two cottages, the owner combined them together to create a long-lasting space that his family could grow into. The large natural wooden frames throughout the back of the home allows for the remarkable river views to be maximised and experienced from all living areas, as well as making the most of the Westerly evening sun.

It should also be noted, this design was applied to and approved by local authority under the constraints of being within a conservation area, in addition to being adjacent a grade II listed building!

We will always be excited and dedicated to our new projects and clients, but it’s just as exciting to us to revisit older projects and be to able to appreciate the positive difference architecture can make to a thriving community.

This property proved so irresistible, even The Yorkshire Post wrote an article on it!
